Why you should not buy a home

This was going to be the first home I purchased. But, I'm glad I didn't.

A few years ago I was living in Charlotte & working what I thought was the ultimate dream job for a bank. It actually was. I created a unique strategy that saved my employer up to $1 million dollars within 6 months ( and that was just one of several money saving solutions I designed for them ).

Plus, I had major perks:
    •    I worked from home (can it get any better)
    •    I had the company credit card & expenses paid
    •    I was able to work wherever my laptop took me (travel became my best friend... my car has the miles to prove it)
    •    The title of VP was behind my name (I.e., ego & pride)
    •    To top it off my managers were actually people I called true friends

You would think I had arrived. Right? In the world of working in corporate it doesn't really get any better.  Sounds amazing right? Not so much for me.  You see, I was completely lost.

I had allowed myself to fall into the trap of addiction. I was addicted to direct deposit. That transaction every two weeks is a hard thing to shake.  I remember the frustration of only having a few dollars in my bank account right before payday. Then the deposit would hit my bank account & all was right in the world again. The highs & lows of living with a toxic money story is exhausting.

Can you relate?

Worst than being addicted was the self inflicted abuse I went through for years. The abuse was not seeing myself as worthy enough to take my skills out into the world & get full compensation for what I could do.

Think about it. If you get a salary, that's only a percentage of the money your making for so someone else. Making 100k a year (which isn't as sexy as it sounds) but saving a company $1 million is backwards math to me. Period.

"Why not make the full amount for yourself instead of only getting a percentage of your worth."

Looking back I see the traps that I was stuck in but during that time, I was clueless. That's when the next trap happened. Purchasing my first home.

This seemed like the next step to take in my life. The street my home was being built on was lined with trees, long driveways & 1/2 acre sized lots. This was IT right? This is what we do at some stage in our life. I signed the contract, walked my lot, took pictures, picked out flooring & furniture.

All along the way I ignored my instinct that this wasn't for me. In other words my gut said run & my head told me to stay. I don't share this to brag or boast but to show you just how deep we can deny the calling on our life. Then we try to drown out the pulling on our heart to do something different with materialistic things.

Here's what I know to be true. Above all else, trust yourself only if you know yourself.

At that time in my life I had went through years of personal development. I knew when my gut was telling me "this was the right or wrong direction to take". So why did I ignore my instinct? Why was I trying to fit into a life that wasn't for me.

"Our deepest fear isn't that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure"- Marianne Williamson

Sometimes in life we need a push to get us in the right direction. Before construction could begin, a issue with the lot voided the contract. Then I was laid off the following week. Blessing in disguise from making a huge mistake? Yes.

"Look for signs that are trying to re-direct you onto your path"

What happened next? I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship, determined to NEVER not have the financial options of how I want to live my life. Has it been easy? Completely not. Have there been tears & moments of frustration trying to figure out how to build a business? Yes, more than I can imagine.

This doesn't have to be your story. You don't have to go through the confusion & constant spinning thoughts of "how do I fix my business". I don't believe in mistakes because everything can be a lesson learned.
